Objectives:
This course aims to provide learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and confidently operate a tractor. The training will cover areas such as:
– Understanding of basic mechanical operations and maintenance of tractors
– Tractor safety protocols,
– Identification of controls and how to use them effectively
– Operational techniques and basic skills for cultivating, planting, harvesting and transporting agricultural produce
– Responsibilities when driving a tractor
– Practical application on a range of different types of tractors
Duration: 4 Days
Location: Across South Africa in various training centres approved by relevant government bodies.
Requirements: Learners must be 16 years or older to be eligible to enroll in this course. Basic literacy is essential, as some tasks may require reading manuals. A valid driver’s license is not required for this course but will help you obtain better jobs in the industry.
Course Content:
The course content covers topics such as:
– Tractor familiarization and inspection (including parts identification)
– Operational procedures (such as controlling speed, braking and shifting gears)
– Starting up, running, shut down procedure for tractors
– Identification of signs indicating an issue with the tractor’s condition
– Adjustment of operating parameters such as RPMs and direction changes according to different conditions encountered while operating the machine
– Emergency situations that might arise when driving a tractor
– Driving maneuvers using clutch engagement/disengagement technique on sloping terrain
– Demonstrations on preventive maintenance tasks like engine oil changes, cooling system checkups etc.
Certification: On successful completion of the course students will receive a Certificate of Completion which is accredited by the relevant authorities. This will enable learners to pursue job opportunities in their desired field or go on further learning journey.
